Thunder 2013 Crowned U13A Champions at Pride and Power Tournament

May. 18, 2026

South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association’s Thunder 2013 completed a dominant four day run at the White Rock Renegades Pride and Power Tournament, defeating the White Rock Renegades 2013 in Monday’s U13A championship final at Softball City.

The Pride and Power Tournament is widely regarded as one of British Columbia’s premier girls' fastpitch events, known for its elite competition and multi division format. This year’s U13A division featured 12 strong teams from across the province, but in the end, it was two South Surrey teams — Thunder 2013 and the Renegades 2013 — who rose above the field. Both entered the championship game undefeated.

A Clash of Local Powerhouses

Under Head Coach Stefan Durston, Thunder 2013 delivered a near flawless tournament.

Thunder 2013
• Round robin: 5-0, 50 runs for and 3 runs against
• Tournament record: 8-0, 80 runs for and 10 runs against

White Rock Renegades 2013
• Round robin: 5-0, 52 runs for and 7 runs against
• Tournament record: 7-1, 67 runs for and 18 runs against

The championship matchup promised a heavyweight showdown, and Thunder delivered a complete performance to secure a 9-2 victory and the tournament title.

Championship Game Summary

Thunder’s offence ignited early and stayed hot throughout the game, led by a standout performance from Paisley Angus, who went 4-for-4 with singles in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings. She also stole two bases, setting the tone for Thunder’s aggressive approach.

The Renegades opened the scoring in the top of the second, but Thunder responded immediately, capitalising on a defensive miscue to tie the game 1-1.

The turning point came in the third inning. With one on, Adella Taillefer launched a two-run home run to centre field, breaking the tie and energising the Thunder dugout. Moments later, Anwin Mills singled to extend the lead to 4-1.

In the circle, Isha Hundal set the tone early, striking out six and allowing just one run over three innings. Katie Durston entered in relief and continued to keep the Renegades’ bats quiet.

Thunder totalled 13 hits in the game. Taillefer and Mills each drove in two runs, while Durston added two hits of her own, to help maintain steady offensive pressure.

A Championship Earned

With the 9-2 win, Thunder 2013 completed the tournament with a perfect record and one of the most dominant statistical performances in recent Pride and Power history.

The all South Surrey final showcased the depth of talent within the local softball community and highlighted the strength of both associations’ development pathways.

A Program Built Over Years

SSWRMSA President Thomas Bell reflected on the significance of the moment for the association and the community:

“Watching Thunder this weekend was something special. Most of these players and coaches have been with us since they first joined our Learn to Play program, and seeing how far they’ve come — the confidence, the skill, the teamwork — it makes all of us incredibly proud. To have two South Surrey teams in the final shows the strength of our local community and the commitment of our families, volunteers and coaches. The future is bright for softball in South Surrey.”

Thunder 2013 now adds a prestigious Pride and Power championship to their growing list of accomplishments — a testament to their preparation, development and relentless play over four days of elite competition.
