South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association Recognized as Softball BC’s Large Association of the Year

Dec. 04, 2025

South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association (SSWRMSA) has been honoured by Softball BC, the governing body for softball in the province, as Large Association of the Year. This recognition comes as SSWRMSA proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary season, marking three decades of building community, supporting athletes, and growing the game of softball.

Softball BC’s announcement highlighted several milestones, including:

  • An approximately $4 million investment by the City of Surrey in the renovation of Sunnyside Park, ensuring state-of-the-art fields for athletes.
  • Hundreds of clinics and year-round programming.
  • Expansion of the U11 Skills Academy and the Thunder Select Development Program.
  • Over 650 registrations across camps and clinics.
  • Strong partnerships with local associations to create more opportunities for players.

Thomas Bell, President of SSWRMSA, expressed gratitude for the recognition:

“This award is truly a reflection of our community. We are humbled to be recognized as Softball BC’s Large Association of the Year, but the credit belongs to our volunteers, families, and athletes. Without their dedication and support, none of this would be possible. We are also deeply thankful to the City of Surrey for investing in Sunnyside Park, which will provide beautiful new fields for our players to enjoy this coming season.”

SSWRMSA is a volunteer run association that offers programs for athletes of all ages, from the Learn to Play program for 5-year-olds through to adult leagues. With both recreational and rep level opportunities, the focus remains on fun, player development, and community spirit. The association is also seeing its hard work pay off, with many teams achieving success at district, regional, and provincial championships.

Bell also acknowledged the role of the U11 Thunder Renegades Softball Skills Academy in the association’s recent success:

“The growth of our U11 Academy has been a big part of this recognition. We are grateful to our coaches and instructors who give so much of their time to help young athletes learn and grow.”

As SSWRMSA enters its milestone season, excitement continues to build. Player registrations are already tracking hundreds ahead of last year’s pace, showing the growing enthusiasm for softball in the community.

“We welcome new players of all ages to join us and experience the joy of softball,” Bell added. “Our 30th anniversary season will be one to remember, and we can’t wait to celebrate it together.”
